Spider-man has been playing in my old VHS player for about two weeks and I keep watching it over and over because it’s that good.  I’ve seen it a long time ago but for some reason, I always feel the need to watch it over and over even though I get sick of movies very easily. 

The first of the three Spider-man movies, features Peter Parker first discovering his powers after a spider bite that altered his DNA.  He starts to learn the meaning of “with great power comes great responsibility”.   He fights local crime in NYC, while still coming off as a menace of society.  It is his job to keep his identity secret, while still trying to keep the city crime free without him looking bad. 

Spider-man stars Toby McGuire as Peter Parker, and Kiersten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson.  The chemistry between the two actors is phenomenal and keeps my interest in the movie.  The special effects of the movie (especially when Spider-man is swinging on his web between buildings) is exceptional.  It is a great portrayal of the Marvel comic books and the direction is great.  It leaves you on a semi-cliffhanger which leads you to want to watch the sequel.

My Rating:

Great Movie! I can definitely see this looked at as a classic in the future.  One of the best comic book movies.

Would I recommend it?: Most definitely!  This type of movie could spark any one’s interest and is great for the whole family.

I have heard from various people that Hancock was a “good movie but the ending was bad.” I figured that I should be the judge of that, so I decided to rent the movie and take the risk of watching a bad ending. 

“Hancock” is about a superhero (Will Smith), who isn’t so super.  He is a homeless man, that doesn’t know how to make people see him as a good hero.  The way he fights crime is humorous because he always ends up wrecking more things that should have been.  After being put into jail for all the harm he has done to the city, he learns how to be a good superhero so people will want to put him to good use.  When people realized that he was able to clean up his act, he was put back on the streets to keep the city out of danger. 

That part really kept me interested because Will Smith had a lot of “Will Smith chuckle” lines.  The special effects were top of the line so overall very visually appealing.After he got out of jail,  I kind of drifted off.  All this mumbo jumbo went on with him and some other superhero girl that didn’t make sense to me.  It was all too corny for me and not exciting at all.  Also, all this eagle symbolism was created in the film but wasn’t made clear as to why it was an important.  The film seemed as if the writers just got tired and couldn’t think of anything clever after the first half was made.

I should have listened when people said that the end was bad because not that it was a waste of time, but I wouldn’t have gotten my hopes up as much as the plot went on thinking that it would have finished up successfully.

Could have ended better, after what seemed to be a strong plot.

Would I recommend it?: Bottom line. No.  Not worth the time and money.  After watching it, it is depressing that a plot so original could end in such a dud.

After a friend recommended this movie to me, I figured I should rent it.  I’ve been a fan of Anna Farris after her first few “Scary Movie” movies, and after seeing some funny commercials, I agreed to watch it.  It was about how the playmate Shelley (Farris) was emitted from the playboy mansion after her 27th birthday.  She wanted to try and keep herself occupied and not mull over her predicament.  She somehow stumbled upon a college campus and is intrigued by the sorority houses on campus.  After finding out she cannot be a part of the sorority without attending the school, she yearned to become  a house mother.  The only house mother needed was for a “loser” sorrority called Zeta Alpha Zeta.  In her attempts at turning the girls around and getting enough pledges to continue on the sorrority house for the next year, she comes across conflicts of all sorts.

Produced by “Happy Madison” productions, it is obvious that the movie is meant to be funny, and don’t get me wrong, it had a lot of well done slapstick humor, but things were missing.  It was akwardly casted, and the plot was too simple and predictable.   The group of sorrority girls could have been better actors.  It was just strange.  I don’t know if I could say it was a good movie.  It had an somewhat original plot, and I believe it could have been carried out better then it was.

My Rating:

It was just alright.  It could have been better, but some of the comedy made me laugh.

Would I Recommend it?: It depends what kind of humor like. If you like obvious and silly humor, then yes. If you like clever and witty humor, then don’t.

After dying to go and see Step Brothers while it was in theatres, and then not being  able to, I needed to get it as soon as it came out on DVD.  My friends always used to talk about how funny it was so I took their word for it. 

The movie is about a single woman who meets a single man at a work conference.  They immediately hit it off and soon realize they have more in common  then they thought.  They both had two 40 year old, unemployed sons that live at home.  Not long after, the two get married and the two sons (Will Ferrell & John C Riley) are forced to live together.   Being the immature men that they are, they immediately hate each other because of the fact that they weren’t there parents  one and only golden children anymore.  They go through all sorts of hysterical fights like whether of not Will Ferrell’s character truly touched John C Riley’s character’s sacred drum set.  I don’t want to ruin the end, like always but it is definitely worth seeing to find out. This comic mix between the two call for great chemistry.  This is the second movie they’ve done together with the same makers from “Talladega Nights”.  I hope they work on more projects together to add to the entertaining collection they have. 

Would I recomend it?: If you feel like seeing a slap stick comedy, that  has no true morals, go see this.

My rating: Had me laughing/crying throughout.  I would even see it again! Which says a lot.

Okay so first I’ll say that when I watched Rate Race a couple of days ago, it was NOT my first time.  Actually probably my 5th time, but the thing is that I’ve been so busy this week it was difficult to take time to rent to new movies so I watched a DVD I already had.  It is pretty safe to assume that since I’ve seen this movie so many times in the past, I really enjoyed it.

It is about a randomizedgroup of individuals selected to compete in a race across the state to win millions of dollars.  There is no catch or scams involved, but to merely entertain the wealthy men that placed bets on who will make it to the goal first.  It is put together withan outstanding cast with some of my favorites including: Whoopi Goldberg, Seth Green, and Jon Lovitz.  This comedic assembly makes for a hilarious plot.  It is visually appealing with some outrageous settings like a coach bus filled with ”I Love Lucy” impersonators.   And with the big question always in mind: Who will get to the money first?-well I don’t want to ruin the ending so I guess whoever wants will have to see it for them self. 

Would I recommend it?: Obviously!

A hilarious plot with a series of exciting/unexpected turn of events.

It is a thriller made in 2006, directed by Martin Scorsese.  Set in Boston, Massachusetts, where the Irishmob is found and behind the scenes crime is plentiful.  Frances Costello (Jack Nicholson), is the boss of an Irish Mob, and hires his protege police man Collin Sullivan (Matt Damon) to work as spy in the Massachusetts State Police, while Billy Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) plays basically the opposite job of Matt Damon’s character.  He is also involved in the State Police, but his job is to go under cover and find out the mob’s doings, while reporting it back to two men and the police station.  One of those men being Staff Sergeant Dignam (Mark Wahlberg).  It is a movie of madness and thrilling scenes that keep you guessing.  While very violent, it makes the movie feel realistic, and frightening.  I don’t want to give anything away because it can be quite twisty and surprising, but I will give my overall opinion.  First, the Boston accents are excellent and left me wishing I had one.  Second, the acting is exceptional which makes me realize why they won all those awards for the movie.  And third, Marky Mark was the best in the movie! He plays such a bad..you know, and no one can outshine him.  Although he doesn’t play a main character- he stuck out to me more than anyone else.That is why I put him in the picture (: So this leads to my recommendation and rating..

Would I recommend it?: Most Deffinatly! Go see it..now

Overall, a great movie!

The first move I decided to watch was “Raising Jeffrey Dahmer”.  My friend and I were talking about serial killers a couple of weeks ago and we were really interested in there motives.  I was searching through Blockbuster’s collection and I happened to find this movie.  I figured I had to get it because I wanted to learn more about him and the cover was intriguing.  I never heard of the movie so I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out.  It was based on the true story of Jeffrey Dahmer, an active serial killer from the 1970′s to early 1990′s.  The story is from his father’s point of view and how he felt like it was his fault for his son’s actions.  It seemed like a low budget film that didn’t have a solid plot.  It was like there was no true point to the movie.  The father was upset, and that’sabout it.  They didn’t show in detail, what the son did, and the time frame was short with nothing getting accomplished.  I wasn’t really interested in how the father felt but more to what was going through Jeffrey’s head, and that didn’t happen.  You would imagine that Jeffrey went through a traumatizing childhood, but no! Nothing interesting to explain his actions.  At least nothing that was shown in the movie.   The acting was poor and Jeffrey Dahmer’s life story could have been executed in a better way.  The cover was very misleading!

Would I recommend it?: No, unless you are raising a questionable serial killer and you are worried what to do.

My Rating: A disappointing snooze fest.
